Day 1: Industrial & Scientific Applications of Salt

The festival kicked off with a brilliant technical seminar led by Dr. Bipin G. Vyas, Principal Scientist at CSIR-CSMCRI. Dr. Vyas masterfully bridged theoretical chemistry with practical utility, demonstrating salt's monumental role as a critical industrial feedstock.

Core Topics Covered:

  • Historical & Contemporary Importance: Exploring salt's legacy and its absolute necessity in modern global manufacturing.
  • Advanced Technologies: An in-depth look at modern evaporation techniques and groundbreaking VMDCr processes for recovering pure salt and freshwater.
  • Diverse Integrations: Revealing salt's hidden applications in the chlor-alkali sector, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, de-icing, and energy industries.

Scientific Debate

The debate arena witnessed intense intellectual battles as 10 participants across 5 pairs tackled the most pressing socio-scientific and economic issues facing India's scientific community today.

Key Debate Motions Explored:

R&D Investment (India GERD 0.64% vs US 3.48%) Space vs. Education Funding Marks vs. Skills in Education Engineers: Innovators or Job-Seekers?
